SSS#9: How the Top 1% of Personal Brands Stay on Top (The Fingerprint Method)
Stop trying to be the next someone else. Start being the first you.
You spend years trying to be the next Garry Vee, Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. You copy their energy, their content angles, their posting schedule.
You try to mimic their mannerisms. But you never get the results you wanted. You stay stuck with minimal followers after months of posting daily. Your engagement remains lower than you’d like. People scroll past your content faster than they’d scroll past ads for products they don’t need.
You get trapped in what I call the “Carbon Copy Trap” – trying to succeed by being a cheaper version of someone who already existed.
Here’s what nobody tells you about building a personal brand or business:
The market doesn’t need another Garry Vee.
The market needs the first YOU.
But most people are terrified of being themselves because they think their authentic self isn’t “marketable” enough, they haven’t stories to tell or they have not achieved something yet to tell the world.
They look at successful creators and think:
- “I need to be more like them”
- “I should copy their strategy”
- “If I just do what they do, I’ll get their results”
This is backwards thinking.
And it’s killing your potential before you even start.
The Great Mimicry Mistake
Every day, millions of people wake up and try to be someone else.
They study the “successful” people in their field.
They copy their content. They mimic their strategies. They try to replicate their personality.
And they wonder why they’re invisible.
Here’s the brutal truth:
You will never out-Gary Gary Vaynerchuk. You will never out-Tim Tim Ferriss. You will never out-Seth Seth Godin.
Not because you’re not good enough.
But because they already exist.
The market has no use for a second-rate version of something that already works perfectly.
But the market is DYING for a first-rate version of something that doesn’t exist yet.
You.
“The market rewards scarcity. Your thoughts, experiences, and perspectives are the scarcest resource you possess. Everything else can be copied.”
Most people don’t realize they’re committing career suicide by trying to be someone else. They think they’re being “smart” by modeling success.
But they’re actually making themselves irrelevant.
Think about it:
If you’re a carbon copy of someone else, why would anyone choose you over the original?
If you’re offering the same perspective, the same solutions, the same energy – what’s your unique value?
You become a commodity.
And commodities compete on price, not value.
This is why most people struggle to:
- Build an audience
- Get clients
- Stand out in their field
- Command premium prices
- Create lasting impact
They’re not just competing with their industry.
They’re competing with everyone they’re trying to copy.
The Fingerprint Revelation
Look at your hands right now. Look at your fingerprints.
Here’s something that seems obvious but is revolutionary when you truly understand it:

Here’s something that seems obvious but is revolutionary when you truly understand it:
There are 8 billion people on Earth.
Not one of them has your exact fingerprint.
Not one of them has your exact combination of:
- Experiences
- Perspectives
- Skills
- Interests
- Values
- Personality traits
- Background
- Failures
- Successes
You are literally one of one.
You are not a niche.
You ARE the niche.
But instead of embracing this uniqueness, most people try to sand down their edges to fit into existing categories.
They try to be “professional.” They try to be “marketable.” They try to be “acceptable.”
And in doing so, they become forgettable.
Here’s what I discovered:
Your weird is your wealth.
Your quirks are your competitive advantage.
Your contradictions are your currency.
The same things that make you feel “different” or “unmarketable” are the exact things that will make you irreplaceable.
The Fingerprint Method: CORE Framework For Authenticity
It’s built on 4 pillars:
Authentic Voice + Personal Perspective + Advantage Stack + Genuine Growth
Let me break down each one.
1) Authentic Voice: Stop Performing, Start Communicating
Most people think they need to “build” a voice.
Wrong.
You already have a voice.
You use it every day when you:
- Text your friends
- Complain about your boss
- Explain something you’re passionate about
- Rant about something that pisses you off
That voice – the one you use when you’re being completely yourself – that’s your authentic voice.
But the moment you start creating content, you put on a mask.
You try to sound “professional.” You use words you’d never use in real life. You adopt a tone that feels foreign.
And your audience can sense it immediately.
Authenticity isn’t something you create.
It’s something you stop hiding.
When I stopped trying to sound like Gary Vaynerchuk and started writing like I text my friends, everything changed.
My engagement went through the roof.
People started DMing me saying, “I feel like I actually know you.”
That’s the power of authentic voice.
How to find your authentic voice:
- Record yourself explaining something you’re passionate about
- Don’t script it
- Just talk like you’re explaining it to a friend
- Notice your natural speech patterns
- Read your text messages to close friends
- How do you naturally communicate?
- What words do you use?
- What’s your natural tone?
- Write like you talk
- Use contractions
- Use simple words
- Use your natural rhythm
- Stop trying to impress, start trying to connect
- Big words don’t make you sound smart
- They make you sound insecure
- Simple, clear communication is powerful
2) Personal Perspective: Your Unique Lens on Universal Problems
Everyone has the same problems.
But not everyone has the same perspective on those problems.
Your perspective is shaped by:
- Your background
- Your experiences
- Your failures
- Your successes
- Your values
- Your personality
This unique lens is your superpower.
Most people think they need to find “new” problems to solve.
Wrong.
You need to find new ANGLES on existing problems.
Take productivity, for example.
There are thousands of productivity experts.
But each one has a unique angle:
- David Allen: Getting Things Done system
- Cal Newport: Deep Work philosophy
- Tim Ferriss: 4-Hour efficiency
- James Clear: Atomic Habits approach
Same problem (productivity). Different perspectives. Different solutions.
Nobody can replicate your mind.
— DAN KOE (@thedankoe) April 25, 2024
Your worldview. Your story. Your identity. Your goals, values, beliefs, traits, interests, drives, skills, experiences, and problems.
The most profitable, unique, and irreplaceable niche is you.
What’s your unique perspective on the problems in your field?
How to identify your personal perspective:
- What do you disagree with in your industry?
- What “best practices” do you think are wrong?
- What advice do you think is outdated?
- What approaches have failed you?
- What’s your unique background?
- What experiences have shaped your thinking?
- What failures taught you something different?
- What successes happened because you did something differently?
- What do you obsess over that others ignore?
- What details matter to you that others overlook?
- What principles do you never compromise on?
- What approaches do you always take?
- What’s your contrarian take?
- What does everyone else say that you disagree with?
- What conventional wisdom do you challenge?
- What unpopular opinion do you hold?
3) Advantage Stack: Your Unfair Combination
This is where most people get it wrong.
They think they need to be the best at ONE thing.
But being the best at one thing is nearly impossible.
And even if you achieve it, you’re easily replaceable when someone better comes along.
Instead, you want to be the ONLY person who combines YOUR specific set of skills and interests.
I call this your Advantage Stack.
You don’t need to be the best writer. You don’t need to be the best marketer. You don’t need to be the best entrepreneur.
But you might be the only person who combines:
- Writing
- Psychology
- Fitness
- Productivity
- Personal development
in the specific way that YOU do.
Scott Adams (creator of Dilbert) explains this perfectly:
“You don’t have to be the best at any one thing. You just have to be good at a combination of things that rarely go together.”
How to build your Advantage Stack:
- List all your skills and interests
- Don’t filter for “professionalism”
- Include hobbies, random knowledge, weird interests
- Include soft skills and personality traits
- Look for unexpected combinations
- What skills do you have that rarely go together?
- What interests create an unusual combination?
- What experiences give you a unique perspective?
- Test your combinations
- Start creating content that combines your different skills
- See what resonates with people
- Notice what makes you stand out
- Double down on what works
- When you find a combination that works, go deeper
- Become THE person known for that specific combination
- Own that intersection
4) Genuine Growth: Evolution, Not Imitation
Here’s where most people plateau.
They find something that works and they stick with it forever.
They become one-trick ponies.
But genuine growth means constantly evolving while staying true to your core.
It means:
- Learning new skills
- Exploring new interests
- Challenging your own assumptions
- Pushing your boundaries
All while maintaining your authentic voice and perspective.
I’ve evolved from:
- Web developer
- To digital marketer
- To content creator
- To entrepreneur
- To author
But my core voice and perspective have remained consistent.
I’m still the same person who thinks differently about productivity, business, and life.
I’ve just added more tools to my toolkit.
How to grow genuinely:
- Follow your curiosity
- What new skills interest you?
- What new problems do you want to solve?
- What new perspectives do you want to explore?
- Experiment publicly
- Share your learning journey
- Document your experiments
- Let people see your evolution
- Connect new learning to your core
- How does this new skill enhance your existing advantage stack?
- How does this new interest deepen your perspective?
- How does this evolution serve your audience better?
- Stay true to your voice
- Don’t change your communication style
- Don’t abandon your values
- Don’t lose your authenticity
The 4-Step Fingerprint Blueprint
Now that you understand the framework, here’s how to implement it:
Step 1: Audit Your Current “Performance”
Before you can be authentic, you need to identify where you’re being fake.
Questions to ask yourself:
- Where am I trying to be someone else?
- What parts of my content feel forced?
- When do I feel like I’m performing instead of communicating?
- What aspects of my personality am I hiding?
Action items:
- Review your last 20 pieces of content
- Identify what feels authentic vs. performative
- Notice patterns in your “performance”
- Make a list of what you want to change
Step 2: Discover Your Fingerprint Elements
Your Unique Voice:
- Record yourself having a passionate conversation
- Write down your natural speech patterns
- Identify your go-to phrases and expressions
- Notice your natural storytelling style
Your Personal Perspective:
- List 10 things you disagree with in your industry
- Identify your contrarian opinions
- Write down your unique experiences
- Define your core values and beliefs
Your Advantage Stack:
- List all your skills (don’t filter)
- List all your interests (include weird ones)
- List all your experiences (include failures)
- Look for unusual combinations
Your Growth Areas:
- What are you curious about?
- What skills do you want to develop?
- What problems do you want to solve?
- How do you want to evolve?
Step 3: Create Your Fingerprint Content
Week 1-2: Voice Testing
- Write 10 pieces of content in your natural voice
- Use your natural expressions and phrases
- Write like you’re texting a friend
- Don’t worry about being “professional”
Week 3-4: Perspective Sharing
- Share your contrarian opinions
- Explain your unique take on common problems
- Tell your personal stories
- Challenge conventional wisdom
Week 5-6: Advantage Demonstration
- Create content that combines your different skills
- Show your unique approach to solving problems
- Share insights from your unusual combination of experiences
- Demonstrate your specific value
Week 7-8: Growth Documentation
- Share what you’re learning
- Document your experiments
- Show your evolution
- Invite others into your journey
Step 4: Refine and Amplify
Analyze what works:
- What content gets the most engagement?
- What voice feels most natural?
- What perspective resonates most?
- What advantage stack creates the most value?
Double down on winners:
- Create more content in your authentic voice
- Develop your unique perspectives deeper
- Build your advantage stack stronger
- Share your growth journey more
Eliminate what doesn’t work:
- Stop trying to be someone else
- Stop creating content that feels fake
- Stop hiding your authentic self
- Stop copying other people’s approaches
The Compound Effect of Authenticity
When you embrace the Fingerprint Method, something magical happens.
You stop competing with everyone else.
You start competing with no one.
Because there’s only one you.
This creates what I call the Compound Effect of Authenticity:
Month 1: You feel more confident creating content because it’s actually you
Month 2: Your audience starts to notice something different about your content
Month 3: People begin to engage more because they feel connected to the real you
Month 6: You attract opportunities that align with your authentic self
Month 12: You become known as THE person who does what you do the way you do it
Year 2: You’re irreplaceable because you’re not trying to replace anyone else
This isn’t just about content creation.
This applies to:
- Job interviews
- Client presentations
- Networking events
- Sales calls
- Product development
- Service delivery
When you’re authentically yourself, you attract the right people and repel the wrong ones.
This is a feature, not a bug.
The Common Fingerprint Fears (And Why They’re Wrong)
Fear #1: “My authentic self isn’t marketable”
Wrong. Your authentic self is the ONLY thing that’s truly marketable.
Everything else is just noise.
People don’t buy products or services. They buy people. They buy stories. They buy authenticity.
Fear #2: “I’ll alienate potential customers”
Good. You WANT to alienate the wrong customers.
The customers who don’t like your authentic self are the customers who will:
- Complain constantly
- Demand unreasonable things
- Never be satisfied
- Drain your energy
The customers who love your authentic self are the customers who will:
- Pay premium prices
- Refer their friends
- Become long-term clients
- Energize you
Fear #3: “I don’t have enough experience to have a unique perspective”
Everyone has a unique perspective.
Your perspective isn’t about having more experience. It’s about having DIFFERENT experiences.
A beginner’s perspective is often more valuable than an expert’s perspective because:
- Beginners ask better questions
- Beginners see things experts miss
- Beginners relate to other beginners
- Beginners remember what it’s like to not know
Fear #4: “What if I evolve and people don’t like the new me?”
Then they weren’t your people to begin with.
Your real audience will grow with you. They’ll appreciate your evolution. They’ll be inspired by your growth.
The people who want you to stay the same forever are the people who are stuck themselves.
Don’t let their stagnation limit your growth.
The Fingerprint Advantage in Different Contexts
For Employees:
You don’t need to be the best salesperson. You need to be the only salesperson who combines your unique background, approach, and personality.
You don’t need to be the best manager. You need to be the only manager who leads the way you lead.
Your fingerprint makes you irreplaceable, not your generic skills.
For Entrepreneurs:
You don’t need to create a revolutionary product. You need to create a product that only you could create.
You don’t need to solve a new problem. You need to solve an existing problem in a way that only you can.
Your fingerprint is your competitive moat.
For Content Creators:
You don’t need to have the most followers. You need to have the most engaged followers.
You don’t need to create the most content. You need to create the most authentic content.
Your fingerprint is your unfair advantage.
For Freelancers:
You don’t need to be the cheapest option. You need to be the only option that does what you do.
You don’t need to compete on price. You need to compete on uniqueness.
Your fingerprint is your premium pricing strategy.
The Long-Term Vision: Building Your Fingerprint Empire
The Fingerprint Method isn’t just about standing out.
It’s about building something that can’t be replicated.
When you fully embrace your fingerprint, you create:
A personal brand that’s actually personal A business that’s actually unique A career that’s actually fulfilling A life that’s actually yours
This isn’t just about short-term success.
This is about building something sustainable.
Something that grows stronger over time.
Something that becomes more valuable as you become more yourself.
Most people build their careers on borrowed strategies and rented personalities.
They’re always one algorithm change, one trend shift, one competitor away from irrelevance.
But when you build on your fingerprint, you build on something that can’t be taken away.
You build on something that gets stronger with time.
You build on something that’s truly yours.

The Fingerprint Promise
When you fully embrace the Fingerprint Method, I promise you this:
You’ll never worry about competition again. Because you’ll be competing with no one.
You’ll never worry about being replaced. Because you’ll be irreplaceable.
You’ll never worry about finding your audience. Because your audience will find you.
You’ll never worry about what to create. Because you’ll create from your authentic self.
You’ll never worry about being good enough. Because you’ll be the only one who does what you do.
The world doesn’t need another copy of someone else.
The world needs the original you.
Your fingerprint is your freedom.
Your authenticity is your advantage.
Your uniqueness is your unlock.
Stop being a carbon copy.
Start being a masterpiece.
The market is waiting for what only you can create.
But first, you have to give yourself permission to be who you already are.
P.S. – If you found this helpful, you’re probably someone who’s been hiding their authentic self behind a “professional” mask. The person who shared this with you saw something in you that you might not see in yourself yet. Trust their judgment. Trust your instincts. And most importantly, trust that being yourself is not just enough – it’s everything.
P.P.S. – Your fingerprint isn’t just about business. It’s about life. When you embrace who you really are, everything gets easier. Relationships get deeper. Work gets more fulfilling. Success gets more sustainable. And you get to wake up every day knowing you’re building something that’s truly yours.
The only question left is: Are you ready to stop being a copy and start being an original?
